Rag Mag Issue 13
Hey Punk, are you on the rag? Yr ol’ pal Creature here welcoming you back to issue 13 of Rag Mag. The warmer weather has been nice and I caught some good live music this week which is always a welcome break. Let’s kick this week off with another great issue featuring new art from Lindsay, Splinters by Leela Corman, Dottie reviewing another VHS tape she found, Wasteland Chick reviews another punk classic, and Creature’s Double Feature. Also, I got a tip on a hot new record from the mysterious Mr. Z, call the number below to hear it now!
Whats up huns ? As some of yous know I love renting videos. Since most videos stores have closed at this point , I started my own video store in my apartment. What that actually means is I got quite the collection going and I thought I'd share some highlights with all your faithful readers. This week I watched "Predator" . I hadn't seen it in a minute but hun it still holds up . Enjoy the video review and always remember BE KIND AND REWIND.

Wasteland Chick
Team Rocket either has plot armor, or Ash is just stupid. Salutations, fellow Wasteland Chicks. Welcome back to you, and to the Pokemon special interest/hyperfixation that came back to haunt me and my thoughts. Anyway, today we’ll be reviewing “We Hate You” by AK47. This song goes pretty hard. Let’s start with the rhythm and melody, which I give a 7.8 out of ten. They’re pretty vibe-able, with nice guitar riffs and drum beats, but they sound a little bit hollow, but still sound good overall. Next: The lyrics, which I give an 8 out of ten. They sound a little hollow and a bit more on the talking-rather-than-singing side, but still sound good and radiate anti-capitalist, anti-billionaire energy, which I love. The lyrics criticize rich people and capitalists perfectly in my eyes, and you all know after 3 months of RagMag that this Wasteland Chick loves. As written on Mr. Mittens Apple Music song playlist names, All Billionaires Must Die. Anyway, time for the overall review: This song’s overall score is 8 out of ten, the rhythm and melody are a bit hollow, but still cool, and the lyrics have an amazing anti-capitalist, all billionaires must die-vibe that I love. Hope you have it in you to make it epic in your lives, fellow Wasteland Chicks. See you next week. Bye!
Sincerely, WASTELAND CHICK (Don’t forget to join the club!)
Caught some live music this weekend. On Saturday I went up to Allston’s newest meat stick restaurant to hang out with nice guy Cory Bell and see the Bugs and Rats/ Harpy/ Carnivorous Bells show. Hadn’t seen Bugs and Rats in a long time and they sounded as good as I remembered and the crowd was loving it. I love how intense Radek looks playing bass. Carnivorous Bells played well and people seemed into it, but not really my vibe. Openers Harpy were great. From the two noise tables on stage and the mic’d up axe I was expecting a noise set, but this was straight up industrial with good beats. Explains why I saw a guy with a revolting cocks patch. Harpy put on a good show.

On Sunday night we went with friends to Courtland Club in Providence for jazz night. The early show is all ages so Wasteland Chick was able to come! Fun night with good music and good friends. Solid cocktails and food too. Really mellow fun spot. I would check it out if you dig jazz. Drummer from the band was sick.

Up first for records of the week are Nothing People’s Late Night. Psych/post-punk outta late 2000s Orland, California. A damn good band who put out some really good records. This really is a perfect album to put on late at night, settling down after a long night.
Next up is Swankys - Very Best of Hero. One of my favorite punk records of all time. Noise cat! Recently reissued by Kings World Records and General Speech.
Soul song of the week is Peggy Scott and Jo Jo Benson’s 1968 Here With Me. Great b-sider where she really goes for it on the chorus.
That’s it for Rag Mag this week punks. Check out the events below and hope to see you there.
